What Happens After You Apply for SSS Maternity Benefits?
After your SSS maternity application is approved, payment is not released instantly. Most members receive their maternity benefit within 7 to 30 days, depending on membership type, employer processing, and bank validation.
| Stage | What It Means | Typical Waiting Time |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted | SSS received your maternity application | 1 - 7 days |
| Approved | Application is validated and accepted | Still no payment yet |
| For Payment | Payment is queued for release | 3 - 14 days |
| Credited | Funds are sent to bank or employer | 1 - 5 banking days |
Does the Release Time Depend on Your Membership Type?
- Employed Members: Employer usually advances the benefit, then reimbursed by SSS. Delays often come from employer submission.
- Voluntary / Self-Employed / OFW: Payment is released directly by SSS to your registered bank account. Bank validation may add extra days.
If your status is Approved or For Payment, delays of a few weeks are still considered normal. Most payments are released in batches, not individually.

How SSS Maternity Benefit Is Computed
This calculator follows the official SSS formula. For manual computation, examples, and common mistakes, see our guide on how to compute SSS maternity benefits manually .
SSS maternity benefit is computed using your posted contributions, not your current salary. Below is the simplified step-by-step method used by SSS.
Step 1: Identify your highest 6 Monthly Salary Credits (MSC)
SSS considers the six (6) highest Monthly Salary Credits within your twelve (12) month Qualifying Period before your Period of Contiquency which is based on you delivery or miscarriage date.
Step 2: Compute your Average Daily Salary Credit (ADSC)
Your ADSC is calculated using this formula:
Average of 6 highest MSC of the Qualifying Period / 30
This represents your estimated daily salary credit.
Step 3: Multiply by the number of maternity leave days
Your ADSC is multiplied by the applicable maternity leave duration:
- 105 days - Normal delivery or Cesarean section
- 120 days - Solo Parent
- 60 days - Miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy
Step 4: Estimated SSS maternity benefit
The final amount shown is an estimate. Actual benefits are subject to SSS validation of posted contributions and eligibility.
Why Your SSS Maternity Benefit May Be Lower Than Expected
Many members expect a higher maternity benefit, but the computed amount may be lower due to official SSS rules. The most common reasons are listed below.
- Salary cap (MSC limit): SSS uses Monthly Salary Credits, not your actual salary. Salary above the MSC cap does not increase maternity benefits.
- Incomplete or late contributions: Missing or late-posted contributions reduce the number of high MSCs used in the computation.
- Qualifying period rules: Only contributions within the official qualifying period before your delivery or miscarriage date are counted.
- Voluntary or self-employed status: Benefits are based on the contributions you actually paid, not assumed income.
- Employer posting delays: If recent contributions are not yet posted in SSS records, they may not be included.
The calculator provides an estimate. Final benefit amounts are subject to SSS validation and posted contribution records.
Who Is Qualified for SSS Maternity Benefit?
You may qualify for SSS maternity benefits if you meet all of the following conditions under official SSS rules.
- You are an SSS member: Employed, self-employed, voluntary, or OFW members may qualify.
- At least three (3) monthly contributions: You must have paid at least 3 monthly contributions within the 12-month period before your semester of contingency.
- Proper maternity notification: For employed members, maternity notification must be submitted through the employer before delivery.
- Within allowable filing period: Claims must be filed within the period allowed by SSS rules.
Qualification and final approval are still subject to SSS verification of contributions and records.
