The Maternity Benefit is a cash allowance paid to eligible female SSS members who are unable to work due to childbirth, miscarriage, or emergency pregnancy termination. It is designed to provide financial support during recovery, ensuring that mothers can focus on their health and their newborn. The benefit is available regardless of civil status, employment status, or frequency of childbirth, as long as contribution requirements are met.
To qualify, a member must have paid at least three monthly contributions within the twelve-month period before the semester of childbirth or pregnancy termination. Unlike other benefits, the Maternity Benefit does not require the member to be currently employed at the time of childbirth. Employed members must notify their employers, while voluntary and self-employed members notify SSS directly.
The amount received depends on the memberβs Average Daily Salary Credit (ADSC) multiplied by the number of compensable maternity days. SSS grants 105 days for normal or cesarean delivery, 120 days for solo parents, and 60 days for miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy. The benefit is paid in full as a lump sum before childbirth or right after filing the claim.
